Some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members from the Asawase Constituency women's wing have expressed dismay over the Ashanti Regional Women Organiser's decision to pick presidential nomination forms for Dr. Kwabena Duffour ahead of the party's primaries in May.
According to the group, the action was especially outrageous and unacceptable because it was without their knowledge.
Gloria Huze picked up nomination forms for the former Bank of Ghana Governor Dr. Kwabena Duffour, to enable him run in the party's presidential primary. The NDC officially opened nominations on Wednesday, 8 February, for the 2024 elections.
Addressing a press conference in Kumasi, the Asawase Constituency Women Organiser, Hajia Ramatu Sakibu said despite the fact that John Mahama and Kwabena Duffour are both prominent members of the NDC, they chose former President Mahama.
She stated that because Mr Mahama has a solid track record in terms of country development, he is undeniably the ideal person to lead the party and, ultimately, the country in 2024.
Hajia Sakibu said a number of projects were undertaken in Ghana during Mahama's tenure, including hospitals, schools, roads, markets and that the Ashanti Region was not excluded hence making him a more marketable candidate.
"For us, we give our 100 percent support to JM, myself and all my women here, all of them are delegates and we are all ready to vote for JM, we want to inform our father (John Mahama) that he shouldn't be perturbed by her actions because we are strongly behind him," she indicated.
Others who shared their thoughts stated that they do not oppose Dr. Kwabena Duffour, but that they feel John Mahama is the finest candidate to lead the NDC in 2024.
Hajia Amamata alleged that since the regional women's organiser took office, she has never convened a meeting with them to discuss issues, including the presidential elections, and so they are uninformed of her choice.
"I really like JM, because he does whatever he says, so we are all in support of our Constituency Women’s Organiser, Hajia Ramatu, to help John Dramani Mahama emerge victorious in the primaries," she added.
