About 20 journalists in Accra have been trained on ways to better-report on issues regarding biodiversity.
This took place during a capacity-building workshop organized by the Strategic Youth Network for Development Ghana (SYND) at the Miklin Hotel.
The pressmen were walked through principles such as restricted areas which are geared towards positively impacting the health of the climate.
They also assessed the relationship between banks and the Biodiversity No Go policy.
The policy was one that helped to better assess the projects that have the propensity to leave the community in danger.
It will also address climate change and biodiversity impacts of a bank’s financing through the exploration of alternate financing opportunities.
During the workshop facilitated by SYND's Focal Point on Biodiversity Gifty Agbenyefia, the journalists formed groups and came up with creative strategies to ensure the principles are complied with.
The groups further enumerated measures through which the media can coerce financial institutions to be more circumspect about spending their funds on projects that are not biodiversity friendly.
SYND also identified some banks contributing to building a sustainable environment and urged them to do more.
Meanwhile, the Network's Executive Coordinator, Chibeze Ezekiel encouraged journalists to take advantage of the skills acquired through the workshop to champion the climate change agenda.
