Ablakwa goes unopposed in NDC North Tongu primaries

Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa will run unopposed in the National Democratic Congress' upcoming parliamentary primaries.

This came to light after the NDC lawmaker became the only person to pick nomination forms to contest the parliamentary primaries in the constituency.

Expressing his delight at the development, Mr Ablakwa indicated that the absence of a competitor will not make him complacent, stating that he will continue to champion the interest of his constituents.

In a tweet on Sunday, the MP said, "We are running unopposed in the North Tongu NDC Parliamentary Primaries. Another reason to serve my beloved constituents better, stronger, harder & more innovatively".

He continued, "As you very well know, I don't & will never take your support for granted. Glory be to God".

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has set 13th May, 2023, for both presidential and parliamentary primaries.

In this regard, the party will elect its flagbearer for the 2024 general election, as well its parliamentary candidates across all the 275 electoral constituencies.

This was announced by the General Secretary of the NDC, Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, at the party headquarters on Wednesday, January 18, 2023.

So far, scores of party faithful have expressed their desire to contest the primaries in their various constituencies.

Meanwhile, supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the North Tongu Constituency have warned that they will not take it lightly if the Member of Parliament for the area is harmed by the State.

In a strongly-worded statement issued on February 10, the constituents say they have observed how the MP, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is being heckled in his quest to hold government accountable.

According to the aggrieved party folks, the attempts to prevent Ablakwa from lawfully performing his duties is an indication of government’s “penchant for fighting anybody who shows an aversion towards corruption”.
