The Minister of Youth and Sports, Mustapha Ussif, has given updates on progress of work on six out of the ten multi-purpose regional youth resource centres being constructed by the government across the country.
The 10 multi-purpose sports centres, which was started by the Akufo-Addo government, contains a FIFA-standard football pitch, a nine-lane athletic track, tennis, basketball, handball, and volleyball courts, a gymnasium, a counselling centre, an information technology centre, an entrepreneurship centre, and a modern restaurant.
Speaking to the media after inspecting the Volta and Eastern Regional Youth Resource Centres on Monday, Ussif explained that contracts have been awarded for six of the facilities to progress on Phase 2.
The six are Wa, Ho, Koforidua, Dunkwa-On-Offin, Dormaa Ahenkro and Axim respectively.
The National Youth Authority(NYA) is the agency spearheading the construction, and its CEO, Pius Enam Hadzide, who accompanied the Minister on the tour, said the six facilities on Phase 2, are expected to be completed soon, and the remaining four will also continue.
The Minister, who urged contractors on site to ensure they complete the work on schedule, highlighted the massive investment the government of President Akufo-Addo has committed to sports infrastructure development in the past six years.
He pointed out the renovation of the various national stadia, the 10 multipurpose youth centres, the over 120 astroturfs across the country and the infrastructure being built at Borteyman and the University of Ghana for the African Games.
