The Board of Directors of the Akatsi District Health Insurance Scheme in the Volta Region has asked the Scheme Manager, Edward Eddah to quit his post.
Mr. Eddah is accused of misappropriating some 200 million cedis belonging to the scheme and also taking unilateral decisions independent of the Board.
Joy News sources close to the Regional Directorate of the Serious Fraud Office which investigated the matter, maintained that over 200 million cedis belonging to the Scheme has been misapplied.
The investigation revealed that the Scheme Manager approved a salary advance of over 7 million cedis for himself, undertook business transactions in the name of the Scheme without following procurement procedures.
According to the Joy News sources, the SFO also found that purchases made were not covered by receipts.
Mr. Eddah is also accused of acquiring an eight million-cedi motorbike from Togo which he smuggled into the country to be registered in his name. Copies of the SFO report have been forwarded to the head office of the SFO and the National Health Insurance Scheme.
Mr. Eddah has denied the allegations and protested the findings of the SFO, however the District Mutual Health Insurance Board says it can no longer work with him.
