The Acting Greater Accra Lands Officer of the Lands Commission, Timothy Anyidoho, has cautioned the public to desist from purchasing state lands.

Mr Anyidoho says prospective buyers should not think they could own state lands because it is dormant., insisting that the move could be costly since the government could reclaim the land anytime need be.

“Let people be advised that when you do a search and you discover government land in an area, don’t assume that government never needs or wouldn’t use it, he advised on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Thursday,.

“If the government is not magnanimous enough to regularise it, you’ll find yourself in trouble. Even the Bible says you don’t know the hour the son of man will come so be advised by that because if a decision is taken today to use it, all properties on the said land would be demolished,” he said on Thursday.

Mr Anyidoho cited numerous examples of some citizens who bought state lands and were found wanting when the government wanted to undertake projects on the said lands.

“The Nungua Farms for example, when government released a larger chunk to the stool, people were still trying to enter the 40 per cent of land government had retained.

"That is not fair and it is a clear warning to all pre-acquisition owners and to those who go to acquire these interests that if government had teeth to bite, it will come back to bite you yourself."

He further said "There is a truck road that is being built now at where we call Spintex Road Motorway. Warnings were given, I remember because I was a young officer then.

"Warnings were given but people still went ahead to develop, today that road is being built and government is taking efforts to demolish and people are crying foul. Why should you cry foul when you were given warnings upon warnings?”
