The Upper East Regional Minister, Stephen Yakubu has appealed to factions in the feud at Bawku to allow peace to reign.
Speaking in an interview aired on JoyNews, Midday News on Friday, he appealed “let’s give peace a chance.”
Meanwhile, there is an air of caution at Bawku and its environs, residents are either avoiding public places or moving with extreme care.
This is the result of recent violence that has claimed the lives of at least six residents.
The military deployment to the area accused of allegedly carrying out these murders has since described the incident as an operation geared at neutralising the threat posed by armed men.
In the last 24 hours, the Regional Security Council held a crucial meeting after which it announced stepping up engagements with traditional leaders to find a lasting end to the ethnic conflict believed to be the underlying cause of the unending violence.
According to Mr Yakubu, “It is very sad that people have lost their lives. It is something that REGSEC, we want to know what really happened.”
He mentioned that the troubles in Bawku are taking too long to be resolved. He attributed the reason it is taking too long to criminal behaviours and politics.
“We really don’t know the reason why it is getting this way and I think that probably there are also criminality in it, there is politics in it, people have their own reasons why they probably don’t want this [conflict] to end.”
