Konongo-Odumasi Senior High School at Asante Akyem Central in the Ashanti region has launched it's 70th anniversary.
The anniversary is on the theme "Enhancing quality education for national development through Free Senior High School policy."
The anniversary celebration has been slated for Saturday 25th February, 2023.
Activities will include lectures, fund raising and homecoming. There will also be a showcasing of Anuanom's contribution to nurturing Ghana's human resources and national development in a mixed-school environment.
Speaking to Adom News, the headmaster of the school, Dr. Benjamin Kweku Baah urged the current students of the school to make something meaningful from the Free SHS policy by the government.
He also applauded the old students and urged them to continue with their massive support towards the infrastructural development of the school.
"Take advantage of the Free Senior High school policy by the government and then ensure you make the best out of it so that you will be productive to help in the nation building and also we are very grateful to the Old Students Association for their support towards the development of the school," he stated.
The National President of the Anuanom Old Students Association, Odeneho Kyeremateng also stated that the old students are already doing a lot to improve the school and currently establishing the Anuanom Endowment Fund which is headed by a 17 member board of trustees to raise about 5 million dollars to support their alma mater.
"We as the old students we should support the school administration and also government because it is a public school in terms of infrastructure. As a result of this intervention we are establishing the Anuanom Endowment Fund which is headed by a 17 member board of trustees with Hon S.K Boafo as a chairman and Hon Maxwell Kofi Gyimah as the vice to raise close to about 5 million US dollars to help grow and support the school," he opined.
Konongo Odumasi Senior High was officially opened on 23rd February, 1953 as a second cycle institution in the Asante Akyem area with 21 boys and 5 girls. The twin communities, Konongo and Odumasi, were beneficiaries of the 1951 Gold Coast Government plan towards education.
