The Majority Chief Whip, Frank Annor Dompreh, has welcomed the change in the leadership of the NDC in Parliament and the resultant division in the Minority Caucus.
This, he explained, is because it would pave way for the Majority side of the House to push through with government’s business when Parliament reconvenes.
Speaking in an interview on Joy FM’s Newsnight on Thursday, Mr Annor Dompreh said the more the NDC MPs remain divided, it would yield to his benefit.
“For me, if the cracks get deeper, it is good for me .. if the crack gets deeper, a number of them on their side are disillusioned and worried, it gives me an urge in terms of the numbers in the sense of having an upper hand to get government business passed,” he said.
Mr Annor Dompreh's comments come after the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday announced a reshuffle of its leadership in Parliament. The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu and the Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak, were all changed as leaders of the Caucus.
A letter signed by the party’s General Secretary, Fifi Kwetey announced Dr Cassiel Ato Forson as the new Minority Leader with Emmanuel Kofi-Armah Buah as the Deputy Minority Leader.
MP for Adaklu, Kwame Governs Agbodza was also named as the party’s new Minority Chief Whip, taking over from Asawase MP, Muntaka Mubarak.
This decision has divided the Minority Caucus in Parliament with some for the change while others are calling for a suspension and engagement.
Mr. Annor Dompreh sympathised with them over the current happening, adding that he expected the opposition to have taken a leaf from the difficulties the NPP MPs went through when they had a divided House.
He went on to say that he wishes them well in the resolution of their party differences.
“It looks like the crack is not over yet and I pray for them and I hope they would be able to get over it.”
The Nsawam/Adoagyiri MP said the newly elected Minority Leader “Dr Ato Forson is a very good friend, fine gentleman, Kwame Agbodza too, but the experience of Muntaka and Haruna Iddrisu is quite admirable and these are not people you can just whisk away.”
“I have listened to a couple of their press conferences and it looks like something is not adding up and it is creating a lot of distaste in the minds and their Rank and File. It is quite unfortunate, I just thought they could have handled it well,” he added.
