Stakeholders are urging government to use Science and Technology Education to curb the growing unemployment rate in the country.
According to the Headmaster for the Konongo Senior High School, Dr. Banjamin Kweku Baah, government can use technology innovation to avoid high number of graduate unemployment.
Dr. Baah was speaking to journalists after the Old Students Union paid a courtesy call on the former President John Kufuor to officially invite him for the 70th Anniversary celebration of the school, and launch of the endowment fund for the development of Science education.
“There is the need for a focus on Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics, (STEM) education because we have to curb the growing unemployment rate in the country.
I believe we can use the development of science and technology especially to solve the canker. There will not be the need for one to go through many years of university education just to read grammar and all forms of courses that will not guarantee job creation at the end of the day” he said.
This year’s anniversary of the Konongo Senior High School will also pay attention to the development of STEM education which has been low in the District despite the introduction of the new free secondary school system.
Former President, Kufuor commended the team for such a bold initiative and declared his commitment to support the course.
“Quality SHS education not just free SHS is very necessary so I commend you for not focusing only on using proceeds from the fund to support KOSS but also to support basic schools within the catchment area of the school.
Preparing the foundation well for pupils before they get to the SHS is important.
I am assuring you that I will be at the 70th anniversary of the school to join you all as your celebrate the milestone. Continue to remain committed to the objectives of this association. Your selflessness is worth emulating” he assured.
The Anniversary celebration is slated for the 25th of February this year at the school's premises.
