Algeria got their 2022 African Nations Championship (CHAN) journey on a winning note as they recorded victory over Libya in Group A.
Aimen Mahious' goal from the penalty spot at the Nelson Mandela Stadium was all Madjid Bougherra's side required to pick up all three points against Libya.
Libya neutralised the attacking threats of the hosts in the opening minutes of the game while also troubling on a number of occasions.
However, both teams could not score in the first half of the game.
Algeria then came back from the second half and played with attacking intents forcing their opponents into an error which resulted in the penalty around the 54th-minute mark.
Mahious made no mistake as he struck his effort past Mouad Ellafi to give Algeria the needed start to the competition.
Algeria and Libya are Group A alongside Ethiopia and Mozambique, who play on Saturday, January 14.
