Legal Practitioner and a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) communication and legal team, Abraham Amaliba has blamed the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other stakeholders for the increasing rate of indiscipline in various secondary schools in the country.
The Lawyer stated that his assertion is based on the fact that the students are being trained by the GES.
In an interview on Prime Morning he referred to the recent viral video of some students of Chiana Senior High School raining insults on President Akufo-Addo and urged people criticizing the students to rather blame the trainers, saying they have failed.
"If you condemn the students, then you need to condemn the stakeholders and the educational system. It only shows the mess that our educational system has fallen into. Stakeholders here mean the parents, teachers and the educational authorities (the GES). And so much as the video is in bad state, I’ll also like to say that there’s growing indiscipline in our secondary schools, and if we all agree that there’s growing indiscipline, it means that Stakeholders including the GES have failed," he said.
Addressing the dismissal of the students by the GES, he asserted that it was wrong to mete out such a punishment to the students.
The punishment he said, "is meant to destroy, it is not meant to correct. It is not reformative."
He said, "A good educational system is supposed to punish and correct."
Meanwhile, he also pleaded with the President on behalf of the children by saying "he should temper justice with mercy; step in before the matter gets to court. If he does that, this for me, will show that he is a caring President."
