Former Minister for Trade and Industry, Mr Alan Kyerematen says he will run a lean government should he be elected to lead the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and eventually become the President of Ghana.
He said he will ensure that some Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA) are consolidated.
According to him, the current architecture of government will be overhauled during his presidency.
Speaking in an address to the nation on Tuesday, January 10, he said he will bring comfort to Ghanaians.
“The architecture of government to be overhauled by consolidating some existing Ministries and Departments and Agency (MDA), this will mean running a lean government structure that will ensure operational efficiency in the delivery of the government services,” he said.
This is amongst some 10 strategies he intends to implement dubbed “Great Transformational Plan.”
According to him, the successful implementation of this plan will help strengthen the macroeconomic fundamentals of the Ghanaian economy.
“The success of the GTP will depend primarily on strong macroeconomic fundamentals, which will include among other things, a stable currency, low inflation, sustainable debt levels, revenue optimization and tight expenditure control to guarantee fiscal balance, low competitive interest rates, strong external reserves backed by high levels of liquidity to support the financial sector.
“To a large extent, the IMF support programme when fully executed, will create the appropriate conditions that will underpin the Great Transformational Plan,” he said.
