The Bissa Fitness Club has donated to the St Elisabeth Orphanage in Aburi as part of the humanitarian projects of the club.
The Club, much noted for its fitness activities for the Bissa community in Accra and its environs rolled out the initiative about a year ago to support worthy causes in society.
During its Christmas day walk which started from Ayi Mensah tollbooth to the Aburi Gardens, members, led by former Sports Minister, Dr Mustapha Ahmed, former Black Stars assistant coach, Ibrahim Tanko, who is a Patron of the Club, and Shaibu Gutare, Chairman, Bissa Development Association (BDA), and Alhaji Adam Yunus, Bissa Chief for Madina, made a stop at the St Elisabeth Home at Jamaicaso to donate to the children to celebrate the festive season.
Dr Ahmed described the moment with the Home as a 'privilege.'
"It is a great privilege for us as a group to be able to come here [St Elisabeth Home] and share this moment with you.
"This is the second walk of the Bissa Fitness Club; last year there was no donation, but this year, the president and his team thought that it would be wise and useful to look for an institution like this that offers such humanitarian services to do a small presentation just to appreciate you for the services that you provide for our children and mother Ghana, and indeed to the entire humanity," he said.
Dr Ahmed added that having seen the task before managers of the home, it gives the group an idea of what the essential needs of the home are.
"Our presence here has afforded us the opportunity to see how enormous the task that confronts you is, and perhaps, this will put us in good stead and if have to do same next year God willing, we will be able to come appropriately."
Gloria Kwarteng, Resident Manager of the St. Elisabeth's Home, appreciated the support from the club, saying it is a 'show of kindness.'
Thank you so much. On behalf of Bishop Dag Heward-Mills [founder and presiding Bishop of the United Denominations Originating from the Lighthouse Group of Churches (UD-OLGC), formerly known as Lighthouse Chapel International (LCI)], my immediate boss, the staff and children of St Elisabeth Home, we want to say thank you for this show of kindness and for thinking about us.
"I can tell you that, everything here is very needful and we really appreciate and we ask that the Lord will also remember you and provide for you when you need it the most," she prayed.
President of the Bissa Fitness Club, Hussein Alhassan Yorda, putting smiles on the faces of children should be a joy for others and the club embodies such humanity.
“As a group, we understand the value of sport and fitness as a discipline, and we know its power as a tool for development and social change," he said after the presentation of the items ranging from bags of rice to soft drinks, toothpaste, pampers, and many others.
"Our aim, therefore, is to use this means to connect as a people and affect positively the lives of everyone else around us and I am glad that today we have been able to contribute to adding some smiles on the faces of the wonderful children at St. Elisabeth’s Home,” he said.
The St Elisabeth Home currently has about 56 children and 11 mothers to cater for the children. Some of the children of the Home are in the University studying various courses.
