The lack of maternity and other inadequate infrastructure at Obanda CHPS compound in the Nkwanta South of the Oti Region is adversely affecting quality healthcare delivery in the area.
A visit to the area by Adom News' Obrempongba Owusu revealed that the lack of maternity facilities, bed, ward and other essentials was affecting quality healthcare delivery.
Speaking to residents they said that the community's population had out of the capacity of the clinic which also lacked a maternity facility and many critical logistics for service delivery.
Consequently, they added members of Obanda and adjoining communities were compelled to travel long distances to seek medical attention for both common and special cases, a situation that is increasing home delivery in the area.
The residents made this known when they themselves organised to raise funds for the construction of a maternity block to enable improvement in the maternal cases in the area.
He, therefore, called on government, NGOs and other benevolent institutions to support the upgrade of the facility for them.
According to the residents, it is difficult to access good healthcare due to the deplorable nature of the CHPS compound due to the lack of maternity block and sick for patients especially pregnant women, as there is a lot of pressure on the clinic because it caters to many farming communities.
The residents are by this report appealing to government through the Nkwanta South municipal assembly and the MP for the area Geoffery Kini and other organisations to help them construct maternity homes to improve the healthcare delivery in the area.
However, the nurse in charge of the facility, Godwin Mortu also explained that home delivery is on the rise in the community due to a lack of maternity facilities and some other essential needs to meet the health demand of the people, hence the need for intervention.
