A meeting between the government and labour unions over increment in the base pay has been called off.
Representatives from the Finance Ministry, Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and Ministry of Employment and Labour Relations were expected to meet the various labour unions on Tuesday to continue with the negotiations since the last meeting ended inconclusively.
However, government was not adequately represented, hence the meeting was called off.
JoyNews understands that the Employment and Labour Relations Minister, Ignatious Baffuor Awuah and his Deputy, Mr Bright Wireko-Brobby, were the only representatives from the government side. They left early to attend to urgent duties in Parliament.
This makes it the sixth time both parties have met over the demand from the labour unions.
Organised labour for a while now, has been negotiating with the government for its base pay for next year.
About five meetings with the government have all ended inconclusively with the Union refusing to accept the government’s proposal of an 18% increase.
The labour unions are demanding a 58% per cent base pay increment and have vowed not to negotiate for anything less.
