France defender Raphael Varane has admitted it will be extremely difficult for Les Bleus to beat Morocco in the 2022 World Cup semifinal.
Morocco has been the dark horse of this year’s tournament, topping a group that has Croatia, Belgium, and Canada before seeing off Spain in the round of 16.
The Atlas Lions then pipped Portugal in the latest of their series of upsets in the quarterfinal to become the first African team to qualify for the semifinal World Cup.
Manchester United’s Raphael Varane is wary of the danger the Moroccans can pose heading into Wednesday’s clash at Al Bayt Stadium.
“We have enough experience to avoid falling into this trap (of being overconfident). They've reached that stage for a reason,” he said at a pre-match press conference.
“They defend very well; it will be extremely difficult. We, the leaders of the team, have to prepare all the players for another battle.”
“It's a World Cup semi-final. You need to give everything until the end if you want to deserve your place in the final.
“They're writing Moroccan football history; they have a collective force with performances that give them a lot of confidence.”
Argentina and Croatia will face off in the first semifinal Tuesday evening, with the winner coming up against the winner of France versus Morocco clash.
