Eleven people have been reported dead after a ghastly accident at Ata ne Ata in the Asutifi South District in the Ahafo Region.
Ata ne Ata is a farming community on the Hwidiem-Goaso highway. The incident is said to have occurred at 7:00pm on Saturday.
An eyewitness account indicates that while 10 of the victims died on the spot, the other victims passed on while receiving treatment at the St Elizabeth Catholic Hospital at Hwidiem.
Graphic online reports that the accident occurred when a tricycle occupied by the victims as well as some bags of ginger, tried to overtake another one at Ata ne Ata.
In an interview with Graphic, the Assemblyman of Wuramuso, Enerst Karim said the tricycle in an attempt to overtake another tricycle fell, leaving both passengers and some bags of ginger onto the middle of the road.
Mr Karim further explained that an oncoming KIA truck from the Goaso side of the road ran over the passengers killing 10 on the spot and injured others.
Four other victims in critical condition are also receiving treatment at the St Elizabeth Catholic Hospital at Hwidiem.
The victims, he said aged between 11 and 17 are mostly from Nkaseim, Kwamo and Ohiatua and were returning from Obengkrom village where they had gone to harvest ginger.
