A 14-year-old girl with a tumor in her right breast has been treated by doctors at Hope Xchange Hospital in Santasi near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.
Doctors at the facility worked for hours to operate on the young girl, whose identity was not revealed for security reasons.
Doctors said they are monitoring the recovery of the young girl who is from Maso Adubia in Ashanti Region.
It was feared that if treatment had been delayed, the tumor would have progressed to full-blown breast cancer disease.
The 14-year-old patient was diagnosed of the condition during a recent breast cancer outreach programme for the people of Manso Adubia.
During the screening, 18 suspected cases of breast cancer were identified.
Seventeen of these were deemed serious and required immediate attention.
Doctors recommended a special surgery to remove the tumor for the girl after a series of diagnoses and treatments.
Miss Ruth Osei, Manso Adubia New Patriotic Party (NPP) Women's Organiser, who facilitated the surgery of the 14-year-old girl, is appealing to well-meaning residents, institutions, and individuals to assist the remaining 17 people.
Miss Osei thanked the surgery's sponsor, Yaw Frimpong Addo, MP for the area and Deputy Minister of Agriculture.
"I wholeheartedly commend doctors and nurses who conducted this surgery and ask the public to report similar unusual cases at the hospital," the Women's Organiser noted.
