The Ghana Startup Network is making a passionate appeal to government to initiate deliberate measures aimed at developing startups across the country.

It argues access to finance, policies and ready markets continue to be a major impediment to the survival of the small and medium scale sector.

Speaking to Joy Business at the 6th edition of the Young Entrepreneurship Awards, Executive Director of the Ghana Startup Network, Solomon Adjei, is however hopeful the Startup Bill would address some of these challenges.

“Government needs to be deliberate when it comes to start-ups development. What funds available that support business creation and sustainability. Access to finance, market and policies are key to enable businesses operate. And these are the areas I think government should be focusing on when it comes to job creation among the youth”.

In all, 65 startups were awarded at this year’s young entrepreneurs awards.

Out of this, 11 received the top-most awards with the reminder getting certificates of honor.

Chief Executive Officer of Medpoint Pharmacy Limited, Eliphas Kwabena Agyemang who was adjudged the Young Entrepreneur of the Year, took the opportunity to encourage upcoming young entrepreneurs to stay steadfast to improving their business despite the unending financial challenges in the sector

Everyone out there who has an idea…implement it, take a step. If you take a step, automatically there are going to be people to assist you, if you keep it to yourself and you go to someone to assist you, what is the person going to base on to assist you? First, make a move and you’re going to be there”.

The Young Entrepreneurship Awards, is a yearly event which seeks to recognise and celebrate young start-ups excelling in their respective field of work.
