According to former Black Stars head coach, Charles Kwablan Akonnor, an appearance with the team at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations would have been a dream-fulfilling moment for him but someone shut it.
After leading the team to qualification continental showpiece, Akonnor hoped to be in the dugout for the competition. However, he was shown the exit three months before the AFCON after a string of undesired performances.
He was then replaced by Milovan Rajevac, who went with the team to Cameroon, where Ghana experienced their worst-ever AFCON performance after amassing just a point.
Akonnor believes things would have been different if he had been allowed to relish his dream.
"[Being the head coach at the 2021 AFCON] was a dream but one way or the other, somebody shut it down, who that person is, I don't know," he said on Joy Sports' Prime Take.
"I wouldn't say so [I would have done better than what Milovan Rajevac did], but I had a plan and if that plan had worked, maybe we would have done better than we did.
"At least, the FA should have allowed me to go to the AFCON and come back because my contract was even running out. I was hurt but I am better now."
Media reports had suggested that the former Sports Minister, Isaac Asiamah, imposed CK on the GFA, but he claims some officials of the FA said the football governing body employed him.
"The GFA also said they employed me, it's funny," he laughs.
"Recently, I heard that that same person now went to say somewhere that he was not the one who employed me, but he personally told me he was the one who did it.
"There are a lot of things that I have kept cool, I have kept calm, and thank God I am not bitter anymore."
In his short stint with the Black Stars, Akonnor won four games, including two in the 2021 AFCON qualifies while also losing four and drawing two.
