The West Africa Centre for Peace Studies, a Ghanaian non-governmental organisation operating in peace and mediation and its subsidiary Migyikra Memorial Music and Cultural Institute have donated to widows of Mafi Sasekpe in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region.
The donation of 50 pieces of cloths and assorted consumables, is in line with the organisation’s corporate social responsibility to promote the organisation’s peace and security campaign in communities across the country.
The peace and security campaign seeks to educate community members on root causes of violent extremism which has become a major challenge in the West African sub region .
Presenting the items, the Executive Director and Founder of the organisation, Mr Erasmus Migyikra mentioned poverty and the lack of good parental care which exposes young people to youth extremism. He added that some widows due to their situation may not be able to provide for their children and that has the potential to push the youths to join radical groups whose activities may not be in the interest of the nation.
Mr Erasmus Migyikra said his outfit which is focused on peace and mediation, decided to support the widows and interact with them and also to educate on the situation.
According to him all of our neighbouring countries have experienced extremists attacks and therefore awareness on extremism should be intensified among rural communities.
He therefore pledged his organisation’s continued support for women.
