The Northern Ghana Union Mission of the Seventh-Day Adventist (SDA) Church has criticised Bekwai Adventist Senior High School for their participation in the National Science and Maths Quiz on Saturday, October 15, a Sabbath day contrary to the beliefs of the Church.
Bekwai Adventist Senior High School contested against Tamale SHS and Mankranso SHS in the one-eight stage of this year’s NSMQ on October 15 and lost to Tamale SHS.
SDA in reaction to this said the school’s act is a gross misrepresentation of the Church. The statement added that the participation in the contest by the School on a Saturday is “a desecration of the Holy Sabbath hours”.
“Indeed the leadership of the Church finds it difficult to understand why an institution like SDASS should smack on the Church, its philosophy and beliefs,” portions of the statement read.
The Northern Ghana Union Mission has since disapproved of any similar act and urged the entire church to desist from such acts in the future.
According to the statement, the Headmaster of Bekwai SDA, the General Manager and the Northern Regional Manager of SDA schools have all apologised to members of the SDA Church.
“We will continue to deal with the situation until its final conclusion. We want to assure all Church members that we will continue to hold on to the truth of the Bible, and also protect ‘Thus says the Lord'," SDA said.
