General Secretary Aspirant of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr. Peter Boamah Otokunor, says the NDC’s distrust for the Electoral Commission (EC) has made the party stronger than ever.

According to him, the Jean Mensa-led Electoral Commission has proven to be biased in favour of the ruling government thus fuelling their distrust for the Commission and their conviction to win the 2024 elections.

Speaking on JoyNews’ PM Express, Dr. Otokunor stated that despite their distrust for the Commission, they are currently engaging with the EC to ensure that some significant changes are made to address the NDC’s grievances about the Commission.

“Our relationship with the Electoral Commission has made the party even more stronger in our bid towards 2024 because this Electoral Commission is an Electoral Commission that we do not trust and we don’t intend to trust unless maybe some significant changes come up.

“As it stands now, we have boycotted IPAC meetings and we’re having some kind of engagement to see how we would resolve our grievances and get back together,” he said.

He further suggested that the EC is not the only state institution the NDC has developed a deep-seated distrust for.

He indicated that with state institutions such as the judiciary and the security services aligned with the ruling government it is of the greatest essence that the NDC wins a landslide victory at the polls.

“So we are very clear in our mind that in 2024 we are not getting an Electoral Commission that will be neutral so we would have to be our own Electoral Commission; we’re not going to get security services that will be neutral so we’ll have to be our own security services; we’re not going to get a judiciary that will be neutral and we’re going to be our own judges.

“That is why we have indicated that in 2024 we’re going for a straight win, and we’re not going to dilly-dally about and say we’re going to court and all that. We’re going for the kill at the polling station and we’re going to make sure that we produce the results.

“Because among other things this battle is not a battle for the NDC alone, it’s a battle for the very survival of this country, for the very survival of humanity in Ghana because the kind of plummeting and the kind of deterioration that this nation is going through, if we do not save this country in 2024 we will not have any country after 2024,” he said.
