The New Kejetia Market's current difficulties, according to the Kumasi City Traders Union, are a result of poor managerial abilities.

The group claims that some volunteer leaders' requests for sole-sourcing metering, lack the foundation required to support successful commercial activities in the market.

Speaking on behalf of the Convenor in Kumasi, Michael Adu-Gyamfi stated that the proposal from the alleged leaders might be tainted with fraud in order to worsen the situation of the struggling traders.

He also mentions that the group is in favour of the Kumasi mayor using an open tender process to acquire and supply meters to the market rather than relying on a single supplier.

According to Mr Adu-Gyamfi, the mayor's decision to purchase and provide meters for the market enclave through an open tender process is laudable.

"We want to re-echo our position in support of the Mayor's resort to using the open tender process in the acquisition and provision of meters to the market enclave. To those calling for the sole sourcing process they should go to hell because they lack supporting and convincing position to back such demand," he said.

Mr Adu-Gyamfi added that "we believe that such proposal from them could be clouded in fraud to further worsen the plight of traders who are currently suffering in the market as a result of bad leadership."

He noted that some people's requests for the upkeep of the market facility could be considered inappropriate and advised them to use the proper channels to resolve the situation.

According to him, any attempt to undermine the founding and continued existence of the Kumasi City Market Traders Union would be fiercely resisted and exposed to safeguard the integrity and development of the market facility.

"It is high time that we serve notice and bring to bear that any influence from whoever, wherever including Osei Assibbey to sabotage the creation and existence of the Kumasi City Market Traders Union will be fiercely resisted and exposed to protect the sanctity and progress of the market facility," Mr Adu-Gyamfi cautioned.
