Three communities within the Kwadaso municipality of the Ashanti Region have benefitted from the Government of Denmark's Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) infrastructure project.
The Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah and officials from Denmark and UNICEF inaugurated the projects in the municipality.
According to the Minister, "Government would ensure that the necessary partnerships are forged and existing ones strengthened to enhance the resilience of Ghanaians to public health outbreaks and to reduce the impact of outbreaks, with emphasis on ensuring equity for the most vulnerable".
In February last year, the Ministry for Sanitation and Water Resources and the United Nations Children's Fund, with support from the Government of Denmark, launched a programme to extend Water, Sanitation and Hygiene services to selected health care facilities and schools in some municipalities in the Greater Accra and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Areas.
The two areas were selected based on evidence from the Ghana Health Service that these were epicentres of the COVID-19 pandemic.
