President Akufo Addo has praised the Trade and Industry Minister, Alan Kyerematen, for spearheading the government agenda in the sector, especially the implementation of the One District One Factory initiative.
106 factories under the initiative are currently operational with 148 under construction, while 24 are at a mobilisation stage. The IDIF according to the President is being implemented with business promoters empowered and supported to either establish new factories or transform existing manufacturing enterprises to contribute to job creation across the country.
Speaking on Kumasi based, Otec FM, as part of his tour of the Ashanti region, President Akufo Addo said the trade minister has been consistent in the delivery of his mandate and sees no reason to continue with his services.
“Today, we are talking about IDIF and the number of factories, industries that are growing up all over Ghana, 290. And we have targeted and already 106 are in operation and the effect of that is the jobs being created and this goes to the credit of Alan”, he disclosed.
On the automobile industry, President Akufo Addo said a well-defined Ghana Automotive Policy outdoored in August 2019 has facilitated the interest of global vehicle manufacturing companies to set up assembly plants in the country and started producing vehicles for the local and the West African market.
‘Since June 2021, Toyota, Suzuki, Nissan, VW, and other leading brands are produced here and this is also creating jobs for thousands and again I can credit the Trade Minister for his hardwork and bringing this to fruition, he added.
The President also praised the Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta for work done in the sector.
According to him the minister stands tall among his peers in the roads sector and challenged anyone with contrary views to challenge him.
