Bishop Herman College (BIHECO) is seeded in the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) for the first time since 2014.
In the Monday morning elimination contest, tensions were high, the stakes were higher and the need to save their reputation was at its highest. When it mattered most, the Volta-Oti zonal champions came to the party.
A strong performance saw them go toe-to-toe with Kumasi Academy (KUMACA) who came into the contest as a seeded school and also had the backing of a home fan base.

But after five rounds of NSMQ action, KUMACA is out, unseeded by the morning’s favourites, Bishop Herman College.
Fiaseman SHS is also out after showing fortitude to place second ahead of KUMACA.
After years of underwhelming performances, BIHECO has a breather. The pains of yesterday washed down the drain.
They stand now as one of the 27 seeded schools that will begin their campaign in the 2023 NSMQ from the one-eighth stage.
The time of regional qualifiers is behind the Volta giants and the only way is forward. They are in the quarterfinal, the money zone, where each point earns the competing school cash.
But the pressure is not over. No school from the Volta Region has ever won the ultimate. Keta SHTS came close in 2021 when they featured in the grand finale but the stage was too big.
Now, the question is can BIHECO replicate the performance of the immediate past Volta-Oti champions? Only time will tell.
For now, they jubilate.
