Through the benevolence of a native who lives abroad, residents of Santrokofi Benua in the Guan District of the Oti Region will no longer rely on stream water for domestic use.

Simon Amewugah, financed the construction of a mechanised borehole to serve the community which battles with the scarcity of water, especially in the dry season.

The Guan District in the Oti Region is faced with a series of challenges, including access to potable water.

Residents of Santrokofi Benua were compelled to rely on streams at the outskirts of the town after a water system constructed by DANIDA broke down, some years ago.

This has been of great worry to Simon Amewugah who resides in the USA.

He then decided to channel resources towards the construction of a mechanised borehole in the community.

Anative, Godwin Grant Oyinteh detailed that Mr. Amewugah became concerned after witnessing how residents suffered in search of water during the dry season when he visited in 2021.

"He saw how people were struggling for water, some people went to his house to fecth water because he has a borehole", he narrated.

He said Mr. Amweugah then decided to mobilize resources to sink a borehole and mechanize for the community to lessen their plight.

Mr. Oyinteh disclosed that Mr. Amewugah also aims to rehabilitate the gravitational water system in the near future to augment water supply in the community.

Mr Amewugah single-handedly constructed a concrete access road in the community to ease the commuting of goods and residents.

The Tsidorhene of the Santrokofi Traditional Area, Nana Kofi Olator IV, was appreciative of the project and entreated the residents to take very good care of the facility.

The Guan District Chief Executive, Janet Emefa Obro-Adibo, entreated other philanthropists to emulate the gesture by contributing towards the development of the district.

She lamented the lack basic amenities in most communities of the district indicating the district has been neglected for too long.

"I am calling on our sons and daughters out there who have been blessed by God to also turn and look at the community. We are lacking a lot because we have been left behind for so long", she said.
