UK-based Golf Club, Hendon Golf Club in London has donated some golf equipment to support the development of juvenile golf program birthed by Captain One Golf Society.
The program by Captain One Golf Society which is in its fourth year, selects kids from foster homes and less-privileged backgrounds and train them in the game of golf.
The aim is to demystify the notion that golf is meant for only the rich in society as well as imbibe in them soft life skills whiles helping them exercise.
Captain One Golf Society's juvenile golf development program has received commendations from leadership of the Ghana Golf Association, after a good showing at two major tournaments both in Accra and Kumasi.
The gesture by Hendon Golf Club is meant to equip the young golfers, enhance their training to be better players as well as enable them to enroll more young people into the program.
Head Professional at Hendon Golf Club, Matt Deal who presented the items said, “the members of Hendon Golf Club are very pleased that the equipment they donated will be used to promote golf in Ghana and hope that many people are introduced to the wonderful sport.”
The golf club donated practice balls, trolleys, shoes, clubs, and bags for the development of the sport.
President and Founder of Captain One Golf Society, Pius Ayeh Appiah, who received the items on behalf of the kids, says the gesture is critical to the promotion and growth of golf in Ghana from the scratch.
Mr Appiah thanked the members for their kind gesture and assured them that the equipment would be used for its intended purpose.
“... Captain One Golf Society has a kid’s golf development programme across the various golf clubs in Ghana therefore the donated items would be distributed to help train the young kids in the sport.”
He called for more support and urged Ghanaians to debunk the notion that golf was a sport for the elite.
In attendance was the captain of Akwaaba Golf Society UK, Patrick Agbeko, who also thanked the Club on behalf of Captain One Golf Society and requested that other Golf clubs do same to help with the development of golf.
