Security analyst Adib Saani has cautioned that the rampant killings in the Upper West Regional capital, Wa, are creating opportunities for terrorists to exploit Ghana's security lapses.
In a conversation with Roselyn Felli on Joy Prime's Prime Morning on Thursday, he explained that the situation cannot be considered a terrorist attack.
According to him, terrorists proudly announce their tendencies in a nation.
According to him, the current situation is creating ways for terrorists to stage attacks against the interests of Ghanaians, making it a worry to security experts.
"This is not a terrorist attack. However, it opens the gate for terrorists to exploit the insecurity situation and the security lapses to also perhaps stage attacks against our interests. That is why this issue was really a matter of worry for everyone, especially those of us within the security space, "he explained.
Mr Saani believes the increasing rate of murder figures is a result of the reduction in the socio-economic condition of the country.
In addition, he indicated that the international crisis, including Covid-19, the Russia-Ukraine war, and the high cost of living, among others, are contributing factors to the increasing rate of killings within some communities in the country.
"The whole issue in Wa is multidimensional in nature. Apart from people wanting it for rituals,... We also have certain socio-economic deficits that are pushing people into uncertainty. Perhaps as a result of local and international dynamics, "
"We can talk about Covid and the repelling effects it has. We can talk about the war in Ukraine, the cost of living is rising by the day, and quite a number of Ghanaians, especially young people without jobs. They’re pushed to a bring into a state of uncertainty," the security analyst stated.
Adib Saani also believes the desiring nature of young people to get rich is causing the increase in murder cases, considering the killing of a 10-year-old boy by two teenagers in Kasoa in August 2021.
Meanwhile, the security analyst has applauded the Ghana Police Service for its timely intervention by deploying 305 security personnel to the Upper West Regional capital, Wa, to ensure that security is managed within the town.
