Captain of the Black Stars, Andre Ayew, has revealed the initiation dance is a way of bringing unity and togetherness among players when they meet in camp.
The ceremony has been in existence in the Ghana team for quite a long time since its first introduction and has been purposely arranged to welcome new additions to the squad.
On Wednesday, September 21, Mohammed Salisu, Inaki Williams, Tariq Lamptey, Ransford Yeboah and Stephen Ambrosius all took their turn as has been the culture to get along with their new national teammates.
Explaining the rationale behind the initiation dance, Ayew said, "We had a great last night as a team and hopefully these little things help bring more joy and laughter and more unity."
"Unity comes with time and result but when we look at other ways, it’s a great way to bring people together all in one room, laugh and joke and talk about different things because there is more than enough stress for every game. But you can have some time to enjoy."
The skipper also added that the initiation dance will continue even if he leaves the team as it has become a tradition.
"It’s been there before I even came to the team. It’s not going to change," he continued.
"It’s a great moment of joy and of bringing each other together — it’s like a tradition and we don’t change those kind of things and I think the guys came in and did their part well."
