President Akufo-Addo has described the death of the heir apparent to the Dagbon Skin, the Mion-Lana, Naa Abdulai III as a “difficult situation.”
He said his death was not expected.
President Akufo-Addo made the comments when the late Mion-Lana’s family members including a delegation from the overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari Mahama II, visited him at the Jubilee House on Friday, August 19.
He, thus, assured them that government will ensure he is given a befitting burial.
“This is an extremely difficult situation. But then all of us will go someday.
“You can count on us for whatever government can do to organise a dignified funeral rites for him. I will do my best to give him a befitting farewell.”
The President also expressed his “deepest condolence to the Yaa Naa, I know how difficult this is for him.”
Meanwhile, he has also urged the family to ensure a suitable successor is found after the funeral rights.
“Cooperate and find a successor for the late Mion Chief after the funeral rites. That is one of the best ways all of us can pay tribute to his memory.”
The late Mion-lana, or Naa Abdulai III, was a dynamic traditional ruler who was often described in some circles as “The Peace Maker” of Dagbon, following his momentous role in the Dagbon peace process.
He died on Wednesday, August 17, 2022, after a short illness. He died at age 48.
He left behind four wives and 12 children.
