The Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has rescinded its decision advising party supporters to stay away when President Akufo Addo visits the Upper West Region.
President Akufo Addo is scheduled to start a 3-day tour of the Upper West Region beginning Sunday, August 21.
The party on Wednesday held a press conference and advised all party supporters to stay away from all activities regarding the visit of the President to the region.
They accused the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih of sidelining in the planning and organization of the visit of the President to the region.
”The Minister in his usual hide and seek behavior, he has refused to involve the party in the planning and organization of the event. In an attempt to meet the Minister of information concerning his Excellency’s visit so that we can make input, the Regional Executive’s meeting was convened, the Minister in his usual clandestine way refused to attend the meeting,” they stated.
The Upper West Regional Minister, Dr. Hafiz Bin Salih later held a press conference to rebut the claims of the Regional Executive Committee of the party.
”As recent as yesterday, I met the Regional Chairman, First Vice Chairman, Regional Secretary and the Deputy Regional Organizer of the party at the Regional Chairman’s residence where I updated them on measures that we have put in place. I never run a one-man show nor push them away from being part of the planning. They have always been informed adequately.
"I was therefore surprised at a press conference that the Regional Executives said that I did not put them in the picture. I found that to be strange,” he noted.
There was however a crunch meeting today with the regional minister meeting the regional executives to trash out the nagging issues.
At the end of the meeting a press conference was held and addressed by the Regional Secretary of the party, Dr. Daniel Dauda Tanko rescinded the decision urging party supporters to come out in their numbers to welcome the President on the three-day tour of the region and take part in all his activities.
''Following consultations and engagement with the regional minister and other party stakeholders, and further to the love that members of the party Regional Executive Committee have for his Excellency the President, we have agreed to rescind the decision and retract the press statement was issued yesterday,'' he stated.
"Further to this, we are urging all party supporters to get themselves ready to welcome his Excellency the President to the region. We love our President and would welcome every opportunity is offered us to receive Him in the Region,'' the statement added.
