Joy Sports understands that Ghanaian forward Fatawu Issahaku is set to be sent back to Sporting CP's B team ahead of the 2022/23 season.
The move by the technical team is to help the 18-year-old get significant game time as that can't be assured with the first team.
Sources close to the technical team reveal Issahaku alongside six other young players namely; Dário Essugo, Youssef Chermiti, Diego Callai and Flávio Nazinho will now primarily be with the B team but will also be called up to the first team sometimes should the need be.
The former Dreams FC forward was signed by Sporting CP on a five-year contract with a release clause of 60 million euros in April earlier this year.
Prior to signing officially Issahaku had been at the club since February and had been training with the youth sides. After impressing in his early months, Sporting CP's technical team decided to promote the Ghanaian and integrate him into the first team for the 2022/23 season.
However, after playing a combined 90 minutes in pre-season friendlies, it has been deemed more prudent to allow the 2021 U-20 AFCON golden ball winner to spend more time with the B team to continue his development.
Issahaku is still registered with the first team and will wear the No.18 jersey in the upcoming season but will much of the season with the B team as he looks to get more playing time and can be called upon the first team when the need arises.
Sporting CP views Issahaku as a highly talented player and will give him all the necessary tools to reach his full potential without rushing his development.
