Members of Parliament in the Ashanti Region have called on residents of Suame to apologize to their MP, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu for attacking him.

On Monday, some angry residents of Suame booed the MP, over the poor road network in the area.

The MP had visited the Constituency to inspect progress of work on various development projects.

His vehicle was also pelted with sachet water and other items such as coconut husk.

It however took the timely intervention of the Police to whisk him to safety.

Commenting on this development, the Chairman of the Ashanti Caucus, Kwame Anyimadu Antwi who spoke on behalf of the other MPs condemned the actions of Suame residents while asking them to apologise to their representative.

“We highly condemn this act. I am not sure Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has been given resources that he had to use within the region which has not been used,” he said.

Mr. Anyimadu Antwi also urged the residents to exercise restraint as they lobby the government to fix the roads.

In the meantime, the Ashanti Caucus have requested an urgent meeting with President Akufo-Addo to discuss the issue of completing the region's road projects.

Also, road contractors in the region have accelerated work on Suame roads after a demonstration against Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

According to Ashanti NPP MPs, although some roads have been fixed and they commend government for that, more needs to be done as there is a lot of pressure from their constituents.

“We have Kwabre East –the roads within Kwabre East are very bad and there are constituencies like Manso Adobea, Nkwanta, Bantama, Kwadaso…, Asante Akyem North and South. So virtually, all the constituencies have some concerns which are roads,” he said.

In a related development, the Minority MPs say they will not allow government to rush through the House, a €140 million facility to construct an interchange and ancillary facilities in Suame in the Ashanti Region.

According to Minority Spokesperson on Roads and Transport, Kwame Governs Agbodza, MPs still do not have enough copies of the loan agreement to peruse and consider.

“It was laid yesterday but as we speak nobody has got a copy of that, so the question is, has it actually been laid?… we are just hoping that nobody comes to tell us that within one day we should read those documents and pass it,” he told the press on Wednesday.

He insisted that Parliament needs over a week to consider the content of the bill.
