Strategic Communication Africa Limited (Stratcomm Africa), on Monday, launched the 10th Anniversary edition of the Ghana Garden and Flower Show (GGFS).
Mawuena Trebarh, Chief Business Strategist, Inspire Africa Consult and former Chief Executive of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, launched the 10th Anniversary edition at a memorable ceremony in the beautiful garden of Gold Key properties, located at Cantonments City.
She said, “By 2030, young Africans are expected to make up 42% of the world’s youth and account for 75% of those under age 35. So I encourage our youth in Ghana to explore this option for job creation and financial independence that Horticulture can afford you”.
She encouraged the youth to unleash their opportunities, talent, innovative ideas and solutions.
Mrs Trebarh further added that, “Let growth for Ghana, for Africa and the world be unleashed through our collective passion for horticulture”.
Stratcomm Africa Communication Manager, Sharon Anim delivering the welcome remarks, said, “Stratcomm Africa is passionate about employing communication as a tool for national development and livelihood enhancement.
"For us at Stratcomm Africa therefore initiating and managing this movement and associated Show is our way of employing communication to mobilise society against climate change.”
She indicated that each of us has a responsibility and part to play, and flower or vegetable garden cultivation is a simple way of helping to win the fight against climate change.
The Director of Parks and Gardens, Rev. Charles Okine, delivered a solidarity message recounting the impact made by the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement/Show over the years and the pride the Department of Parks and Gardens takes in collaborating with the Movement.
He congratulated Stratcomm Africa on its unflinching determination to mobilise society towards sustainable living in Ghana.
The theme of the 10th Anniversary celebration, 'Growth Unleashed, speaks to the determination of the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement to work towards growth in sustainable living through the achievement of a Greener, Cleaner, Healthier, and Wealthier, more Beautiful Ghana'.
The theme thus encourages and motivates Ghanaians, particularly the youth, to take advantage of what the floriculture and horticulture industry in Ghana offers to contribute to the country's development and improve individual livelihoods.
Israeli Ambassador to Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone, Shlomit Sufa, also launched the 2022 Israeli Green Innovation Competition (IGIC).
IGIC seeks to encourage innovative initiatives from Startups in Ghana’s Green Economy by recognising Ghanaian youth who come up with Agriculture and other sustainable living-related solutions.
Stratcomm Africa CEO, Esther A.N. Cobbah, highlighted the commitment of the Ghana Garden and Flower Movement to promoting sustainable living and emphasised the need for youth involvement in Agriculture, particularly in Floriculture and Horticulture.
According to Ms Cobbah, many opportunities are available to the youth in this sector. She thanked all stakeholders for their support over the past 10 years and called for more partners to promote a greener, cleaner, healthier, wealthier and more beautiful Ghana.
Other dignitaries that graced the occasion include the General Manager of Movenpick Ambassador Hotel Accra, Debora Sivertsen, Arafua Apaloo-Aning, member of the Advisory Board of the Movement, Show Exhibitors, and other well-wishers.
