A variety of foodstuffs seized by the Accra Metropolitan Environmental Health Inspectors have been donated to the D Rose Foundation, an orphanage at James Town in Accra.
The inspectors seized the foodstuffs when the Joy Clean Ghana Campaign team had gone out to sensitise the traders but found them selling at unauthorised places.
Usually, the offenders are made to pay a fine to the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and take away their seized items, but the offenders were adamant.
The inspectors, therefore, decided to donate the items to an orphanage.
Presenting the items, the director of the Environmental Health Department, Florence Kuukyi, urged the orphanage's management to ensure the donation serves its purpose.
On her part, the founder and director of the orphanage Rosedarling Soway commended AMA officers for putting the seized items to such a good purpose.
Madam Sowah disclosed that the provision of diapers for the children has become a major problem and appealed to corporate bodies, churches and individuals to support them.
