The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) is asking the security agencies in the country to swiftly investigate and prosecute the perpetrators of the killing of their colleague lawyer on the Bole-Bamboi road in the Savannah Region over the weekend.
In a press statement issued on Monday, May 30, the GBA said the perpetrators of the “heinous crime” must be made to face the law.
“The Ghana Bar Association, with particular reference to the incident on Saturday, 28th May 2022, involving our departed colleague, Richard Badombie, humbly and respectfully implore the relevant security agencies to carry out swift and thorough investigations of the incident in order to identify the perpetrators of this heinous crime and make them face the full rigours of the law.”
The Association also placed a ¢20k bounty on the heads of the perpetrators.
According to the GBA, this will enable persons with legitimate information to share them with the security agencies.
"The GBA also urges the public to volunteer information to the security agencies to enable them to thoroughly investigate the matter with a view to identifying the perpetrators of the crime and making them suffer the consequences of their action.”
“The GBA stands ready and prepared to give a reward of twenty thousand Ghana Cedis (GHS20,000.00) to anyone who volunteers credible and legitimate information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the crime.”
Already, three suspects, including Benin and Mali nationals, have been arrested by the Savannah Regional Police Patrol team in connection with the murder.
They were arrested on Sunday, May 29, and are currently in Police custody, assisting with investigations.
According to Police sources, one of the suspects whose name has been withheld is a foreigner and a casual worker at the Bole Cocoa Research Centre.
About the murder
The lawyer was attacked on Saturday and shot dead by armed robbers on the Bole-Bamboi highway.
In a statement dated May 28, the Ghana Police Service revealed that the victim was driving a Hyundai Accent saloon car with two other passengers on board, travelling from Accra to Jirapa, when the incident occurred.
“When they got to a section of the road between Banda Nkwanta and Nuoyiri communities, three armed men emerged from the bush and signalled them to stop and while slowing down, one of the robbers shot and killed the driver.
“We will do whatever it takes to get these miscreants arrested and brought to justice,” the Police said in their statement.
