Police in the Ashanti Region have arrested five armed robbers suspected to have robbed a gold dealer.
The arrest follows an intelligence-led operation on the Accra-Kumasi Highway.
In a statement dated May 28, the Ashanti Regional Command disclosed that the suspected robbers stole gold from the dealer at gunpoint at Akyem Adukrom.
The suspects namely Adams Awal, Ibrahim Hamidou alias Akwasi Anokye, Inusah Moro, Nasiru Salifu and Kwadwo Amponsah are currently in Police custody.
“Items retrieved from them include one AK 47 Assault Rifle, two magazines loaded with 24 rounds of ammunition, one python revolver pistol, eight BB live cartridges, nine gold nuggets and an amount of GHC 9077.00,” the police revealed.

The security agency also revealed that a Toyota Land Cruiser with trade plate number DV 4142 F which was being used by the robbers has also been impounded.
Meanwhile, the Savannah Regional Police is also on a manhunt for three other robbers suspected to have gunned down a lawyer on Saturday.
