The MP for Nsawam Adoagyiri says Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will be victorious in the 2024 polls should he run on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Mr Frank Annoh-Dompreh made the declaration at a conference to elect the constituency officers for the NPP in his constituency.
He also urged former President John Mahama to forfeit any dreams of contesting in the next elections.
According to the MP, John Mahama has played his part in ensuring the country's development.
“John Mahama has done his part. He should leave and not contest again, but by God’s grace, the next president of Ghana will be Dr Bawumia,” he said.
Despite the NPP's victory in the 2024 polls, national Chairman, Freddie Blay, noted that it would be impossible if tension and confusion continued to linger within the party.
He thus urged the grassroots and leadership to work as a unit ahead of the elections.
“Definitely, it’s not going to be easy. In 2008 when the party went into its internal elections, the candidates were as many as 17. I believe that this year, they will be far less.”
“We need togetherness; we sometimes need to put our differences somewhere and support the candidate that can break the 8. Breaking the 8 is not just a slogan, but it’s going to be a reality,” he said on Adabraka-based Citi news.
For the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia cannot be considered a prospective Presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party in the 2024 general elections.
Speaking on JoyNews, former Deputy Information Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, explained that the reputation that precedes the Vice President due to his abysmal performance in the economy will make him untenable as a candidate.
According to him, the Vice President will not be taken seriously as a presidential candidate by electorates because he has failed to defend some of government’s policies despite being the head of the Economic Management team.
Interacting with the host of AM Show, Benjamin Akapko, he said: “The point is that what he (Bawumia) is noted for or his claim to fame in the past was economic management.
"He has been so spectacular that he is running away from the record he has supervised. As head of the Economic Management team, he has supervised the worst economic situation under the 4th Republic."
