The Trade Union Congress has said that they will not accept any excuse from government in relation to the improvement of their conditions service for this year.
The unions said any attempt to cite the Ukraine-Russia war for inability to pay them what is due, will be resisted.
Speaking at an Organised Labour pre May Day Forum on Thursday, General Secretary of the Trades Union Congress, Dr. Yaw Baah urged government to meet the needs of the Labour Unions.
According to him, the challenges of unemployment and poor conditions of service existed before the onset of the war.
He, therefore said government “should not hide behind Covid and Ukraine to say that Ghana is in this state because of these events.”
“If exchange rate is behaving the way we are seeing it, it shows very much in our pocket and nobody should tell us…because just go to the pharmacy you will see that prices go up every day and these are medicines.
“Go to the market the food prices are going up every day and these are the conditions we have found ourselves in and you know it is very easy to blame the Covid and Ukraine war for this,” he stressed.
This follows Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana (CLOGSAG's) announcement of its intention to proceed on strike from Thursday, April 21 over the government’s failure to pay its members their neutrality allowance.
The Association in a statement said the neutrality allowance formed part of a Memorandum of Understanding entered into with the government on January 20, 2022.
According to CLOGSAG, despite official reminders and follow ups to the Finance Ministry, payment of the allowance has not been effected after more than three months as agreed.
