The Colleges of Education Non-Teaching Staff Association of Ghana (CENTSAG) has suspended its strike for a period of one week to make room for further engagements with relevant stakeholders.
This follows a meeting it had with the National Labour Commission (NLC) on Wednesday, in which CENTSAG was directed to meet the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) and other interested parties to achieve expected resolutions.
CENTSAG declared an indefinite strike over what it termed as the hesitancy of the appropriate authorities to act on their calls for better service conditions.
National President of the Association, Frederick Yeboah, told JoyNews on Tuesday, April 12, that despite the stressful efforts and overtime duties by their members, the government has not paid the overtime allowances for over six years.
But the NLC on Wednesday ordered that they immediately return to work after declaring the strike illegal.
The Association is, therefore, expected to meet the Commission on Wednesday, April 20 to communicate the outcomes of their engagements with GTEC and the allied parties.
Meanwhile, it warned its employer and stakeholders the strike may resume should the issues at stake remain unresolved.
The resumption of the strike will take place without serving any additional notice.
“May we reiterate that given the exigency under which we are suspending this strike, Management of the Colleges of Education should expect a spontaneous response by the members of CENTSAG to resume duty; however, it is possible that this communication will not reach all our members on time”
“Hence, we expect management to be circumspect with the punctuality of our members resuming duties,” a statement issued by the Association on Thursday said.
