The Country Director for Easy Water for Everyone (EWfE), Harrison Matti, has communicated his organisation’s dedication to ensuring all 22 island communities in the Ada area gain access to potable drinking water.
This is in line with his organisation’s drive to serve 60 more communities in Ghana with drinking water by 2024.
He made this announcement at this year’s celebration of World Water Day, at a ceremony held at the Pediatorkorpe DA Basic School, where community schools engaged in a quiz competition on water, sanitation and environmental issues.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Matti noted that it was important for students to understand the need to drink safe water and also become ambassadors of drinking safe water at home and in the community at large.
To support the initiative, he explained that the NGO was partnering with other international organisations to develop, improve and expand mechanisms that will provide clean and pure water for the island communities.
“We have been doing this for years and it is something we will continue to do despite the Covid-19 pandemic and its limitations. Everybody deserves water; good, clean water and we find pleasure in providing it,” he added.
Already, the NGO serves 26 communities across Africa with plans of serving 20 newly identified communities in Senegal starting in May 2022 through a partnership with Le Korsa.
The device used by Easy Water for Everyone currently produces a minimum of 6000 litres of clean water daily without electricity.
Easy Water for Everyone serves rural communities that have been left out as a result of national thresholds including, islands where rigs cannot access, hard-to-reach communities, communities where simple pipe schemes cannot reach, communities with access to surface or underground water, and communities without power.
This is to aid African countries achieve the UN SDG 6 which talks about ensuring easy access to water and proper sanitation.
Easy Water for Everyone was founded by Nathan Levin and Linda Donald in 2015. The organisation currently has presence in Ghana, Uganda and Senegal.
