The Accra Metropolitan Assembly’s Public Health Department has organized a one-day sensitization workshop to educate public toilet operators in the metropolis.
The programme, which brought over 150 janitors and facility managers together, was geared towards the improvement of hygiene and environmental sanitation within and around public toilet facilities.
In her remarks Director of Accra Metropolitan Assembly's Public Health Department, Madam Florence Kuukyi, said, "we are concerned about compliance with hygiene by those of you operating Public toilet facilities and that is why we organised the workshop."
The workshop was part of the Joycleanghana environmental sanitation campaign between AMA and JoyNews.
Madam Kuukyi advised the participants to maintain good hygiene at their facilities to prevent people from contracting diseases from public toilet facilities.
She cautioned those who have connected their effluent into public drainage to desist from the practice.
The workshop was opened by the Mayor of Accra, Madam Elizabeth Sackey.
