The management of Life Living Records has denied claims by Afrochella co-founders that they had requested the Asakaa Boys to perform for free at the 2021 edition of the event.
According to Rocky Boateng, the management did not reach out to any member of the Afrochella team to make such requests ahead of the event.
His statement was contained in a post on Twitter captioned “The truth about Asakaa boys performance at Afrochella block party.”
“I did not talk to anyone about allowing Asakaa boys 10 minutes on stage,” he wrote.
This comes after one of the co-founders of Afrochella revealed that in 2021, the management of Asakaa Boys petitioned the team to give the artistes some minutes to perform at the event.
According to Ken Agyapong Jnr, the management had tried convincing the organisers that the artistes were willing to perform for free.
In an interview on Joy Prime on Thursday, he stated that Afrochella denied the request explaining that they had reached their budget limit.
Mr Agyapong added that they also did not want to have artistes perform without remuneration, considering the reputation and name they have built for the brand in the past years.
Meanwhile, Rocky Boateng has also denied allegations the Asakaa Boys were paid for performing at the 2020 Afrochella Block Party.
He maintained that the festival organisers, during negotiations in October 2020, had informed him that they could not pay acts because of the pandemic that saw parts of Ghana on partial lockdown.
However, the organisers paid for rappers’ transportation and accommodation for the duration of their performance, the Life Living Records manager stated.
