SES HD PLUS Ghana, the country's premium high-definition satellite broadcast service provider and 3Music have celebrated women achievers, from corporate to entrepreneurs and those in music and entertainment.
They’ve therefore rewarded some women including Joy FM’s Doreen Andoh who have impacted society and inspired others to go the extra mile in life.
Speaking at the event to commemorate this year’s International Women’s Day, Lawyer Naa Ayokor Kato-Browne, Board Member of the 3 Music Awards urged all stakeholders to give equal opportunities to women to develop their careers and build confidence.
According to her, several women have struggled to get to the top, despite their talents, and as such they must be encouraged and supported to do more for society.
“For a day in an entire year that we commemorate international women’s day, we hear about the accomplishments about resilient, strong, beautiful, powerful and down to earth young girls and women. However, all too often I must add that the stories of these women come with some form of struggle, difficulty, restraint or bias”.
“At 3Music we are committed to ensuring women reign, to deliver and entertained the industry and society beyond today’s celebration. We call on all stakeholders in the industry [music] to break the bias by equaling the airtime space they give to men to women. We again call on all stakeholders to create an equal and just space for development of women on merit”.
Marketing Manager of SES HD PLUS Ghana Limited, Adelaide Abbiw-Williams, described the rationale behind the partnership with 3Music Awards, saying, HD Plus is proud to be the HD experience partner of the 3Music Women’s Awards to celebrate women achievers in all fields of life.
“HD Plus is proud to be the HD experience partner of the 3Music Awards and through the emerging women of the year award, we are demonstrating the inclusion and diversity through HD Plus in delivering world class TV viewing experiences to everyone in Ghana to have a taste of how television is watched in a crystal clear experience.”
She further said that the hallmark of the HD Plus brand is delivering world class TV viewing experiences.
"We belief that by giving up and coming video and music producers the ability to produce high quality music videos, we are placing them at a point where they can actually compete on the global stage. This is because music is not just about the sound and performances, but it is also about how to package music videos and that is the objectives of HD Plus partnering 3Music this year”.
A female chief, Yaa Peprah Amekudzi, who is the Country Lead for Cocoa Life, encouraged women to go into cocoa farming and production to ensure sustainable cocoa in Ghana. This she believes will bring in more foreign exchange into the country.
“For me personally, my interest is for the women in cocoa because cocoa is produce by women and yet cocoa is seen as a man’s crop. If you take all the processes that cocoa goes true you will see women making sure there is quality and all that. But when it comes to taking the cocoa beans to the depot then the men tells the women to wait home because that is where the monies is going to exchange hands.”
“So we as a people of Ghana when we are talking about cocoa - the chocolate - it should be possible to see what goes into that and see how to break the bias. Cocoa should not be seen as a man’s crop, cocoa cultivation is seen as a joint thing between men and women, especially women”, she added.
Host of Joy FM's Cosmopolitan Mix show, Doreen Andoh, was one of the recipient of the awards
She expressed her happiness for being recognised as one of the women impacting young women and society.
“I’m truly grateful to 3Music Awards. For me it’s an honour and am grateful that my work has impacted a lot of people and even after 27 years, a lot of people are still being impacted and a lot of people are also still learning from what am doing. I’m still in the school of learning about life and I’m glad to have young women on my side.”
“For me it’s my prayer that a lot of young women would also be inspired by all of these, to say that no matter who you are you can still do it, no matter what your background you can still do it. You just have to believe in what you are doing, be passionate about it, pray about it and work hard. So I’m truly grateful and truly honored”, she added.
The 3 Music Women’s Brunch is to amplify the need for equal representation and inclusion of women in the entertainment industry.
The annual event celebrated women who make, enable and amplify the music industry, whilst celebrating Ghanaian female artists to commemorate international women’s day.
