Migrant Labour General Workers Union International (MLGWUI) has charged men to commemorate this year's International Women’s Day by spending the day at the side of their wives and children.
According to the Union, since the day focuses on gender equality and sustainability, as a way of support, men should share the cooking responsibilities in their homes.
Also, the Union has called on African governments to extend the maternity leave for women in the labour market to six months. In Ghana, women enjoy maternity leave of three months.
“Female national security personnel and revenue collections staff must be well paid,” it added.
The 2022 International Women’s Day celebration is under the theme: “Break the bias.”
As part of the celebration, MLGWUI has entreated all migrant international students, documented and undocumented African Ghanaian women immigrant workers and members of their families in Ukraine and surrounding countries or communities to respond to governments' home calls and avail themselves for immediate evacuation.
To mitigate the effects of the Russia-Ukraine tension on victims, the Union wants “Global Governments or Heads of State and employers to consider health, industrial and administrative space for Ukraine-returned migrant students, temporary Internship with allowances after they have gone through their psychological and Covid-19 test and waiting to continue their education.”
MLGWUI with her education department Finnish-French Migrant Resource (MLGWUI-FFMRC) wishes all working women, especially women migrant workers a Happy International Women's Day.
