Efforts are currently underway to retrieve a Toyota Land Cruiser from the river at Odawna in Circle.
On Monday morning, residents in the area woke up to see the vehicle floating in the river, which passes through the busy business district in Accra.
Eyewitnesses say the driver of the vehicle with registration number, GW-2400-16, is a very popular businessman in the market.
According to them, he was in the process of parking the 4-wheel-drive near the Odaw river where his business centre called 'Gye Nyame House' was situated.
However, on making a quick turn to finishing this parking routine, the unforeseen happened.
Residents told Accra-based UTV that they still do not know what went wrong but only saw the car move backward until it overrun the flanks of the bridge, crashing into the waterbody.
The residents say the driver was in the vehicle with his wife and three children.
Later this morning, city authorities had deployed a tow truck to the scene with the assistance of police MTTD officials.
The truck had connected its hook to the deteriorated vehicle in the river and pulled it out to safety.
The occupants of the vehicle had already been assisted out by passers-by and rushed to the hospital for treatment.
