The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akuffo Dampare, has admonished officers in the Oti Region to ensure the lives and properties of citizens are protected.
Ending a three-day working visit to the Oti Region according to the Service in a Facebook post, the IGP told his officers that "the Police are servants who are to serve the community," therefore "are not to lord over and scare the people."
The IGP's three-day working visit was to experience the region's general security situations and encourage personnel to be dedicated to the Service and Ghana in the maintenance of law and order.
The Oti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Charles Dormamban, and other senior Police officers with the Regional Headquarters formation welcomed the IGP and his entourage on February 16, 2022.
While on tour, the IGP and his entourage seized the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on the Regional Minister of Oti Region, Dr Joshua Makubu.
The team also visited the various paramountcies in the region, including Nana Mprah Basamuna III, the President of Oti Regional House of Chiefs and Omanhene of Krachi Traditional Council; Nana Obrenpong Kanya II, the Paramount Chief Of Nchumuru Traditional Area; Ubor Tassan Konja VI, the Chief of Kpassa; Nana Kwaku Beyeinor II, Chief of Dambai; Nana Asabre Amoakotia.
The others are; Bamuhene of Kadjebi Traditional Area; Nana Edze Kpesse Tetteh Brantuo VII, Adontenhene of Buem Traditional Area and Chief of Jasikan; Nanai Okotor Kwa Me Tegyei VII, Nanai Kwadjo Asiakwa II and Nanai Buadu Basahia, Paramount Chief of Nkonya, Torgbedga Tsedze-Atakora VII, Paramount Chief of Alavanyo, Traditional Area, and Nana Mbabilla II, Sibi Central Chief.
There, he further called for support from all and sundry to help the Police to deliver on its mandate since security is a shared responsibility.
The IGP and his team also assured the citizenry that the Police Administration is resolute in changing the face of the Service to meet international standards.
IGP Dr George Akuffo Dampare outlined some of the policies being pursued by the Police Administration to make the Ghana Police Service a world-class Police institution.
Notable among the policies is the implementation of the new holistic training programmes at the various Police Training Schools to produce all-around effective and efficient Policemen and women who are proficient in driving, riding and swimming and Police officers who respect the fundamental human rights of the citizenry to harness the human resource base.
The IGP also used the occasion to interact with students and pupils of Dambai College of Education and St. Thomas Aquinas Roman Basic School in Dambai.
He encouraged them to be committed to their education which is the bedrock of success, and to see challenges as an opportunity to achieve future goals.
Accompanying the IGP were Director-General (DG) National Patrol Department, COP Paul Manly Awini; DG/MTTD, COP Francis Aboagye Nyarko and DG/Welfare, DCOP Habiba Twumasi Sarpong.
Others include Deputy-Chief Staff Officer, C/Supt Grace Ansah-Akrofi; Director, Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU); C/Supt A. Abass and Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Supt Alexander K. Obeng.
